Understanding Tai Chi and the Benefits of Tai Chi Chuan, Tai Chi Yang and Tai Chi Wu

“Students of the martial arts in the West feel that they must use their art to fight, or at least to compete, to show people how good they are. In tai chi, this is unacceptable, because that is against the principle of tai chi. ”
 (Gabriel Chin)

Peace of Mind with Tai Chi

Peace of Mind with Tai Chi

When it comes to exercise of the body, and the mind, so many of us have bought into the “no pain no gain” way of thinking. If exercise doesn’t wear us down or make us feel sore in the morning then it cannot be doing any good, right? We are often told that if our diet plan doesn’t leave us craving for more, then we need to eat even less. Is this really how we need to go about things or is there a more, natural and effective way?

There is and that is what Tai Chi, Tai Chi Wu and Tai Chi Yang try to teach us. Whether you choose to make Tai Chi a part of your every day life or just learn from the values and lessons within it, you will benefit.

How Can Something So Easy Be So Beneficial?

I already know the preconceptions that come with Tai Chi. People just assume that anything that looks so easy, and feels so easy, cannot possibly bring about a physical change. Of course it looks relaxing and feels refreshing but there cannot possibly be any health benefits, can there? I am tired of people using the phrase no pain, no gain. Some of the best things that have happened in my life have come about without any pain at all.

While some of the benefits of tai chi may be less than earth shattering they are there and as we all know, every little bit helps.

Healthy Benefits of Tai Chi

Many practitioners of Tai Chi have noted benefits including a resurgence of muscle control and even rapid recovery from illnesses, diseases and surgical operations. While the benefits are not always that spectacular or rewarding, the art of Tai Chi really does prove that some of the best things in life can be slow, calculated and peaceful. Some people have found it easier to walk, easier to do everyday things, and that they have more stamina and energy on an everyday basis thanks to Tai Chi. Others just have a more optimistic outlook and general appreciation of life through the philosophies of Tai Chi Chuan, Tai Chi Yang or any other Tai Chi form that they let into their lives.

But how? But why? How can something so graceful and slow actually have a positive effect on our health and our bodies? Some people attribute it all the way back to traditional Chinese medicine while others believe it has a lot more to do actually body mechanics. The truth is that whatever opinion you choose to believe, you can enjoy the health benefits of Tai Chi as long as you have an open mind.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Philosophy

From this perspective of Tai Chi, it is believed that health benefits come about from your own personal energy and overall well being. Each Tai Chi form is built around the idea that the body consists of a sort of electric, energy system. This energy, or Qi, is carried throughout the body the same way that blood flows through the veins and any interruption of the flow of the Qi can lead to mental and physical illness. Thus, the movements that are the basis of all forms of Tai Chi are intended to stimulate the Qi to flow freely through the body and to the major organs. When the Qi can run freely through the body, people are well. While this idea is not generally accepted by Western philosophy, it is often very hard to argue with the results.

tai chi 2 Understanding Tai Chi and the Benefits of Tai Chi Chuan, Tai Chi Yang and Tai Chi WuThe Western Philosophy of Tai Chi

The idea that is more generally accepted in the Western World is that Tai Chi benefits the body and mind through mechanical effects. The repetition and focus on correct spinal alignment, body posture and the release and tension of pressure can relieve stress on joints, pain in the back, and even improve the digestive system.

The main movement that is consistent in all forms of Tai Chi is the shift of weight from joint to joint with a focus on proper balance. This allows for a natural flow of nutrients to the joints which makes it easier to move and stretch later on. While the exercises and positions of Tai Chi may look easy, you are actually incorporating a number of free flowing movements at once which increases your flexibility and overall range of motion.

It doesn’t feel like work and it doesn’t wear you down, yet you still get a number of invigorating and life changing benefits. That isn’t even to mention the psychological benefits that can come from slowing down, taking the time for yourself and screening out all distractions. You get a healthier, more flexible, and more in tune body, along with complete peace of mind. It doesn’t get much better than that.

How to Get Started and Learn Tai Chi

If you want to get started with Tai Chi you have a number of options available to you. You can learn from Tai Chi masters and look for local classes in your area or invest in Tai Chi DVD’s or books. If you want a first hand lesson then you might want to take a look at Taoist.org which can help you find local classes that are lead by experienced trainers. The best part about those classes is that the setting is very relaxed and easy going which cuts away any apprehensions you might have about entering a classroom setting.

While there are videos that can teach you Tai Chi form and the movements, books around often the best way to go about really getting in touch with the spirit of mind that Tai Chi teaches you to embrace. One of the best options on the market is “The Complete Book of Tai Chi Chuan” which is practical and comes complete with illustrations and step by step instructions. It isn’t overwhelming if you are just getting into the basics of movement, power and flexibility and is just in-depth enough to make a true impact on your life………mind, body and spirit.

“Tai chi does not mean oriental wisdom or something exotic. It is the wisdom of your own senses, your own mind and body together as one process. ” (Chungliang Al Huang)

The Five “B’s” for Finding True Happiness: Compassion, Generosity, Insight, Freedom and Being Content

happy2 The Five “B’s” for Finding True Happiness: Compassion, Generosity, Insight, Freedom and Being ContentI watched a video today that did more than inspire me. I can’t even put into words the emotions that came over me when watching this video. I was inspired, felt driven, and even had small tears well up inside of me. All of this from a 56 second video taken on the streets of India and words spoken by a man who is open about his lack of knowledge and literacy.

There are so many experts, psychiatrists, and doctors try to discuss the search for happiness and how one can truly be happy. Even they cannot describe it or explain happiness the way this man did with one sentence. One powerful, inspiring, and truthful message. So what was it and what did he say?

“The Key to Happiness is to Choose Happiness”

That was it. That was all he said, and that is all that is needed. Too many people go too far in depth when analyzing and deconstructing spirituality and the pursuit of happiness. Sometimes our happiness and well being simply is not as complicated as we make it. If you truly want to be happy then you have to be open minded and willing to choose the path of happiness. Let it into your life, be open to opportunities, and be accepting and positive every day of your life. Choose happiness and it will all start from the inside.

We all want to be happy. We all strive to be happy. We all crave happiness. However, being happy doesn’t always appear to be that simple. So here are the 5 “B’s” for finding happiness and bringing bliss into your life.

When I first began to write this article I really assumed that it would be an easy topic to write about. Talk about things that make me happy, easy enough right? Then I realized that what makes me happy would not necessarily make you happy. Happiness isn’t always a universal thing, so how can there be any universal tips when it comes to embracing pleasure? I was stuck in a rut. Sure everyone strives for health, fun, friends and family, but what about the people that enjoy being alone or have other desires? I was lost as to how to approach this topic, and then I stumbled upon Buddhist Philosophy.

happy3 The Five “B’s” for Finding True Happiness: Compassion, Generosity, Insight, Freedom and Being ContentBuddhist Philosophy

Buddhism recognizes and appreciates the fact that true happiness can only be found within oneself. What this means is that happiness has to be brought about via a choice and a change in your own mind. Too many of us focus on changing everything around us, helping others before we help ourselves, and over reaching for pleasure. If we do not appreciate ourselves and understand that our own happiness comes from the inside, how can we expect to be able to help others?

Many of the external things that we find ourselves chasing will not actually bring us happiness. If a new car and more friends manage to bring you happiness it often only turns out to be a fleeting happiness. Finding true, internal happiness takes dedication and is a far reaching goal, but is incredibly attainable. Find happiness from the inside out. Fix yourself form the inside before shaping the outside world. Follow these five tips and make a change towards true happiness.

How to Find Happiness “B” #1- Be Able to Look Inside Yourself

It is paramount to face your demons. Take responsibility of your actions, your thoughts, and your opinions. Many people are infested with self doubt and have even hidden themselves from their own mind. So many people sit there and gossip about other people, how confused they are, how rude they are, and how many problems they cause. You often have to face your demons and realize that if everyone around you “has problems”, you might be the common denominator.

Happiness is not something that is out in the world to find or something we always need to search for. It is in here. It is in your heart. It is in your mind. It is easy to say this, but much harder to actually live it. Your first step is to recognize the source of your individual happiness. Once you understand that you are responsible for finding your own pleasure, it is then that you can take steps towards finding more fulfillment.

happy11 The Five “B’s” for Finding True Happiness: Compassion, Generosity, Insight, Freedom and Being ContentHow to Find Happiness “B” #2- Be Truly Free

The definition that we have come to believe when it comes to the word freedom is not truly freedom. It has become known as a sort of “I do what I like when I like” type attitude and method of living. That sort of freedom often does not lead to happiness. While we often feel like we are doing what we want to do, we are tied down by our true desires as well as the things that the media and society are telling us.

In today’s world consumerism has forced us to always want things. I want this. I want that. If I get that then I will be happy. It is these fabricated desires that actually eat away at our freedom. In order to achieve true happiness we have to each find a way to break free from our desires and understand what we really need to be happy, not what we want.

How to Find Happiness “B” #3- Be Compassionate

Everyone feels that friends and family are important. We would do anything for the people who are close to us and the ones we love. However, that love and kindness rarely seems to transfer over to strangers. Why is it that we are so compassionate to some people but completely disregard others? We are compassionate with the ones we love because we have a deeper connection with them. What if there was a way to find that same connection with complete strangers or even the rest of the world? What if we just realized that we all do have something in common? We all do share at least one goal; we all want to be happy.

The desire to be happy is behind every major decision or move that we make in life. Every minute of every day our minds are geared towards finding happiness and fulfilling internal desires. Understanding that everyone shares this same desire to be happy can help us understand that we are just like everyone else. We all want to be happy. So be compassionate and accepting of everyone around you, no matter what their faults or opinions may be. In the end, they just want to be happy, and so do you.

How to Find Happiness “B” #4- Be Generous and Giving

We are instinctively hardwired to be selfish. We cherish ourselves and we want what is best for us. We talk about ourselves, we talk about our problems, and we want the focus to be on us. Stop it. Just stop. The truth is that nobody really wants to hear it. Instead, find a way to give. Connect with others through giving and realize that the more time you take to think about others and give, the less time you will have to dwell on yourself.

Compassion and generosity. Cherish those ideas, use them, and connect with others. There is so much happiness that can be spread through connecting and sharing with others. Happiness doesn’t have to be about a brand new house or a bigger TV; it can simply be about conversation and caring for others.

happy4 The Five “B’s” for Finding True Happiness: Compassion, Generosity, Insight, Freedom and Being ContentHow to Find Happiness “B” #5- Be Content

Sometimes it is our lack of understanding of what happiness is that prevents us from actually finding it. Instead of focusing on being happy, try to focus on being content. Happiness has been associated with running around, playing on the beach, and laughing and smiling all day long. For many people that may not even be what makes them truly happy.

We all have what we need in our lives already to be happy. I will go out on a limb and say that is true. Some of you may call me out on that but the fact remains that we do not need very much to be happy, and most of us already have it all.

So why does finding happiness still seem to be so hard?

In most cases we tell ourselves we are happy. We even take the time to count our blessings, appreciate what we have, and even feel grateful for the things in our lives. However, that feeling and those emotions do not last for long. It only lasts until something goes wrong, someone cuts us off while driving, or until we see another material good that we want. These other emotions swoop in and steal our happiness.

We need to stop that wanting emotion and that craving for more. Be content. Be content with what you have, be proud of what you have already achieved, and you will be that much closer to being happy on a consistent basis.

The Key to Happiness is to Choose Happiness. Think about it. Really. Please.

Mantra Meditation is the Easy Way to Meditate

meditation 3 Mantra Meditation is the Easy Way to MeditateSmall Steps for Big Solutions

Meditation can often be seen as a very intimidating prospect for those who are not already well practiced in this life art. While it is technically one of the easiest forms of relaxation and focus available to our species, the mere idea of sitting in one spot for an extended period of time can make many people want to climb the walls. Many of us are fidgety by nature so trying to concentrate on nothing, as so many people have heard meditation is about, seems like an exercise in tedium and totally boring. However, meditation does not need to be a silent activity nor does it need to drive us nuts trying to do it.

Ease into Meditation with Mantra

Mantra meditation is perhaps one of the quickest and easiest forms of meditation to learn because it is not only effective, it’s extremely simple and does not require highly disciplined emotional control in order to get started. In fact, you could start right after you read this article if you like. The reason that it is so simple is because all it requires is a mantra that you repeat over and over.

meditation tree Mantra Meditation is the Easy Way to MeditateA mantra can be a phrase or simple sounds. Many people use the sounds ‘om’ or ‘aum’ to start out with, but others prefer phrases such as ‘love and light’ or ‘I am deeply at peace’. It’s up to you to choose which works better, but the idea behind choosing sounds is that they are easier than phrases to focus on and not mix up. The idea behind selecting short phrases is that by repeating the phrases you focus your subconscious mind on the phrase in order to bring about change in your life.

Find a Private Place to Focus

The mantra style of meditation requires that you say the sounds or phrases aloud so you will want to find a private place to do this in. If you can concentrate on these phrases and say them slowly out loud with your eyes closed you are halfway there. It’s recommended that you sit on the floor, using a pillow only if you need to because too relaxing of a position can lead to a nap, which is not the point of meditation. If you can say the sounds in a drawn out way, concentrating on keeping your breathing deep and slow, you will soon be in a relaxed state, focusing purely on the sounds of each syllable.

meditation2 Mantra Meditation is the Easy Way to MeditateIt’s that simple. The goal of this style of meditation, in the early stages, is pure relaxation and the benefits associated with that such as lowered blood pressure. Mentally, you will experience a clearer mind so that whatever you do next is easier to focus on. Overall, mantra meditation is an excellent way to reduce stress. Open your mind, give it a try, and ease into meditation. The art form does not have to be intimidating and you do not have to jump into it unprepared. Take small steps, get in touch with yourself, and use the power of meditation to benefit your spirit, body, mind, and soul.

Believing in Karma: Combining the Law of Attraction and the Law of Cause and Effect to Achieve your Goals and Improve your Life

Which Path are you Destined to Follow?

Which Path are you Destined to Follow?

Karma

Karma is a notion or idea that many of us believe in, accept, and even practice throughout our daily lives. But how can karma or, to be more specific, the law of cause and effect actually work? Do we really reap what we sow? Will things actually go around and come back around?  Well to put it simply, yes. We all know how powerful our thoughts can be and how our actions can became the cause for a number of effects. Even in-depth science explains that, “for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” So what does that mean for us? How can we engage in causes that bring about the effects we desire?

Combining the Law of Attraction and the Law of Cause and Effect

When the law of attraction and the cause and effect principles merge they can work together to produce a very powerful effect. Utilizing them together is an exceptional way to reach your goals faster and achieve your desires. Syncing up your actions and thoughts can in fact give you the power to accelerate your speed on the path to success. If your main desire is to find love, then you should not only be focusing your thoughts on love, but you should also be sending out kindness and love to everyone around you. This connects the law of attraction and the law of cause and effect, thus making your thoughts and actions more influential.  By walking the walk as well as talking the talk you are doubling your efforts and making a commitment to a more enlightened and rewarding lifestyle.

Before putting your positive actions and positive thoughts to work the real question becomes, which process is harder to do? Constantly ensuring your thoughts are positive and focused? Or engaging in actions that will help you achieve your goals? Once you have an understanding of which is harder for you, you will know which factor you need to put more work into.

positivism Believing in Karma: Combining the Law of Attraction and the Law of Cause and Effect to Achieve your Goals and Improve your LifeFate and Destiny’s Relation to Desire

What many people choose to neglect, when the discussion of positive thinking and karma comes up, is the effect of fate and destiny on your desires. There is always something deeper than what we are. Something that is planned or meant to be. No matter your religion, beliefs, or opinion of spirituality, it is clear that there is something much deeper that is often unexplainable. If your desires correlate with your purpose in life then it may be a lot easier to manifest your desires. Accordingly this could be why you feel such incredible and overwhelming happiness when you live your life with purpose and achieve your goals.

Putting Positivism at the Forefront

Essentially what the principle of karma does is justify the importance of positivism within our lives. Not necessarily social activism, just steady positive thoughts and positive reactions to certain situations. If you are committed to giving out kindness and love, that is what will often be given back to you. If you focus on negativity, anger, and conflict, then this is what you will receive. While you are urged to stay positive and connect on a spiritual level, there is often a fine line between passing on positivity and pushing it onto others. Your positivism will inspire others, but let it work on its own. Many times positive thinking is something that people need to find on their own, rather than be pressured into it as people do with other methods of thinking.

affirmation Believing in Karma: Combining the Law of Attraction and the Law of Cause and Effect to Achieve your Goals and Improve your LifeIn many ways, awareness itself can inspire enlightenment. Positive thinking and combing your thoughts and actions does not have to be an intimidating change. In the end, the actions and thoughts that you cast out into your life will bring in results that correlate to them. Just as a fisherman plans his bait in order to attract certain fish, you have to be aware of the bait that you are using to attract desires.

Just listen to your self, tell yourself what you want, act on your desires, and live life with purpose. You will be rewarded.

Making Positive Changes with Daily Affirmations: The Power of “I Am” for Reaching your Goals

affirmation1 Making Positive Changes with Daily Affirmations: The Power of I Am for Reaching your Goals

“I live my life like it is a day at the beach! I love my life.”

You may have heard that part of the “Positive Thinking Philosophy” is the use of what are called daily affirmations. The word affirmation means, in this sense, ‘to state that something exists or is true’. This can be anything that you want to be true about yourself or your situation in life, such as feeling upbeat, growing stronger, losing weight or even having a clearer complexion. So when you say an affirmation each day, you are stating to yourself that what you are saying is true. It’s really as simple as that.

Yet, how do you know what you should be affirming? There are a few conditions that you are advised to meet in order for your daily affirmation to have maximum effectiveness. Let’s cover the basics characteristics of a powerful daily affirmation so that you can construct your own:

Basic Steps for Daily Affirmations

Positive - You want your affirmation to be positive, of course. This is the core of the concept due to the fact that we have already been trained, in most cases, to criticise ourselves. This is an inherent part of growing up. We’re taught to question things in school and we’re taught what not to do by our parents. This is all supposedly for our own safety, and to help us be able to understand how we need to behave in different social situations. This is natural and, as a child, necessary, but once you are an adult you want to focus on what you are ABLE to do. This is why your affirmation needs to be positive, to push you forward in a direction that you have chosen to go. A positive daily affirmation builds mental and emotional momentum.

affirmation2 Making Positive Changes with Daily Affirmations: The Power of I Am for Reaching your GoalsPersonal - Your affirmation needs to be about something personally meaningful to you. In order for the affirmations to work, they need to tap into your emotions so that’s why you need to be personal with yourself when you are coming up with them. The key is to choose things that you actually care about. For example, if you want to become a better athlete then choose a star you would like to be better than. If you want to earn more money then choose a person or company that you would like to earn more than. By choosing subjects that are personal to you, you enable yourself to bring the full force of your emotions to bear on your thinking process. That will make your changes much more powerful.

Particular - Be particular about the goal of your affirmation. It isn’t good to simply tell yourself you will have a new car. That can work, but you should be more specific and name the model of car that you want. That way you are drawing very specific imagery from your mind and reinforcing a vision of what you want to happen. This also helps pull your emotions in line with your thoughts and provides more force behind your affirmation.

Present Tense - When you word your affirmation, it is crucial that you word it using the present tense. You won’t want to say ‘I will run faster’ because that suggests that you can’t now but you plan to in the future. Don’t delay yourself any more than reality itself may end up slowing you down. Speak to yourself in terms of the here and now, don’t talk about the past you have behind you, and don’t let yourself think that it’s okay to delay the actions that are needed to obtain your goal.

affirmation3 Making Positive Changes with Daily Affirmations: The Power of I Am for Reaching your GoalsMaking Changes with Positive Daily Affirmations

This is the power of ‘I am’ in a daily affirmation. By utilizing this potent present tense wording, you are telling yourself that you are already there. That’s like putting a treat in front of a dog to get it to move to where you’d like it to go, or focus on what you are doing since you hold that treat. If you begin telling yourself ‘I am losing fat each day’ then you are programming your subconscious to begin working. Not tomorrow and not next year, but right this very minute. If you tell yourself, ‘I am rising up from depression’ then you are enabling your mind, giving it permission and the encouragement it needs to start solving the problems that exist in the now.

This technique can work for many situations and by starting right now you keep the momentum that you have at this moment, and you build on it. Through persistent action at every opportunity you have, you will experience the success that you want. Set goals, take action, reward yourself and get in tune with your desires. Success and inspiration can appear when you need it the most, you just need to open your mind and give it enough space to enter your life.

Exploring the Power, Rewards, and Benefits of Positive Thinking and your Health

Improving Health, Body, Mind and Soul With Positive Thinking

Improving Health, Body, Mind and Soul With Positive Thinking

Break Free With Positive Thought

Perhaps you have heard about the so-called power of positive thinking. Maybe you are wondering exactly what this means and whether or not it is a fanciful story created by those who wish to sell you something. As in all things, opinions on the validity of positive thinking and its benefits will certainly vary from person to person. It is a given that no approach will work for each and every individual, but in the case of this article let’s take a look at the general idea of this positive approach to life and what it could do for you.

While there are many different schools of thought when it comes to thinking positive, the general thrust of the overall philosophy is that a person generates energy with their thoughts. This energy is sometimes seen as a product of the brain itself, while other times it is considered to be generated by the soul of an individual. Both of those schools of thought believe that you attract positive things into your life by thinking about positive things. In other words, by focusing on the good things in life you can attract those good things to you.

Creating Opportunity Through Visualization

Often, this is explained as activating the subconscious mind, the part of our brain that is active all the time. By activating this area of our brain, those who advocate positive thinking believe that we are ‘loading our mind’ so that it will function on our behalf. Thus we will begin thinking about how we can get what we want, and how to be even more happy than we already are with our lives. The fundamental principle is ‘like attracts like’ which you could also think of as ‘birds of a feather all flock together’. This is especially emphasized in a 2006 book called “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne, a very influential text on the powers of positive thinking.

Happy Thoughts Equal a Happy Life

Happy Thoughts Equal a Happy Life

Following the idea that this style of ‘mind shaping’ (also called ‘thought shaping’) can work, then the next question is how do we put this to use? It isn’t simply about thinking of happy things constantly as if you’re in a drug induced state, but rather focusing on the positive aspects of your life and situation. What this does is help control your mood. The reason that mood control is an important part of health and the effectiveness of a person is because we all function much better when we are not depressed. Depression, which is what many believe negative thinking leads to, lowers a person’s ability to keep social relationships healthy and also limits their daily function.

Shaping Society As Well As Our Own Minds

The next component is the idea that our thoughts can shape the world around us, not just our own moods. This seems like a large leap at first, but in reality it’s not quite as outlandish as it sounds. Think of it this way, every man made building on the planet began as a thought. The same goes for our clothing, our technologies, everything that man has made began as a thought in someone’s imagination. The reasoning of positive thinkers leads them to the idea that if our thoughts, our very imagination, can affect the world around us in a massively powerful way then we may be creating additional effects via our thoughts on top of what science has been able to explain so far in our history.

Is There Hard Scientific Evidence for Positive Thinking?

While a belief system such as positive thinking or any other philosophy is not exactly the sort of thing that hard science is meant to analyze, there is some evidence that thoughts may be able to alter things.  Masaru Emoto of Japan is a man who has conducted solo and group experiments where he had water photographed after people have concentrated their thoughts on that water. The resulting photographs of the water crystals are presented to show the striking visual differences between crystals that had negative thoughts focused on them and those which were focused on with positive thoughts. You will need to be the judge of whether or not this is valid, but it is certainly interesting.

Create a Positive Atmosphere in your Life

Create a Positive Atmosphere in your Life

At its core, the power of positive thinking is that it encourages us to take control over our own thought processes, to examine what we think and why we think it so that we can use our minds for our own purposes, rather than be buffeted by the world around us. Focusing on our personal desires and controlling our moods so that we are more effective are tactics that have worked for a great number of successful people from actor Will Smith to investing mogul Warren Buffet. It’s one free step that you can take to get your life closer to the point that you dream of. All you need is a spirit of determination and your own imagination.

Visualize what you want. Strive for the things that matter. Envision yourself reaching your goals. Shun negative thoughts and grasp the positive energy that surrounds. Positive thought attracts positive actions. Believe in yourself, believe in what you are capable of and your goals may just be closer than you thought possible. And the best part is that there is no risk involved, no free trial, no money back guarantee, and no shameless self promotion.

It is all about you and the power of your mind, break free from the shackles of negative thought and find out what you are really capable of.

Healthy and Consistent Weight Loss; Live a Positive Life with Pilates

Free your Mind and Tone your Body

Free your Mind and Tone your Body

Pilates has become an extremely popular form of exercise and really offers an excellent way to get in shape. It is not only good for your body but can also relax the mind and make you feel calmer and more at ease. The hardest part about Pilates is getting started, as you may feel lost or not really know how to go about doing things appropriately. Here to help you out are some Pilates tips and ideas to help you implement fitness into your life.

Use a Pilates teacher to learn the basics
Possibly the best way to learn Pilates is to sign up for a beginner’s class in your local area. Working with an experienced Pilates instructor will ensure that you get started the right way and get a proper introduction to this unique form of exercise. They can also tailor a program to your individual needs and show you what changes you can incorporate to maximize your Pilates experience.

Set Realistic Goals and Be Positive

Of course your initial goal is to tone your body so that it looks like Jessica Alba, but it is best to start slow. Be honest with yourself about which weight loss and toning goals you can achieve, and the strengths and weaknesses of your body. You will have a lot more success with Pilates if you set attainable goals and remain positive even if the changes come about slowly.

Be Patient

The reason that Pilates is so popular is due to the positive and consistent change it brings about. This consistent weight loss and toning means you will be able to meet your long term goals, but must be patient. You are not going to get the body you want overnight and you need to be willing to practice Pilates’ exercises regularly.

Don’t Overwork Yourself

So many popular fitness programs and work out tapes push the old adage, “No Pain, No Gain.” This is not the philosophy inherent within Pilates. If something hurts or you are exhausted then you need to take a break. Relax and be sure to listen to what your body is telling you. Obviously some discomfort may mean that your body is going through positive changes, but if a certain position hurts, let up and take a breather. Your body knows what it is talking about.

Make it Personal

Pilates is an excellent form of exercise because it can be adapted to so many lifestyles and used to meet so many of your needs. Look for certain programs and exercises that are geared to your everyday life and certain ailments you are suffering from. For example, if you suffer from back pain then find the exercises geared towards improving the strength of your back.

Set Aside the Time

Make your Pilates time all about you. Set a schedule and practice Pilates on a regular basis. Clear your mind and only focus on yourself while doing it. If you are at home then turn off your cell phone and unplug your land line. Make the time truly quiet and peaceful, and your body and mind will feel more at ease for the rest of the day. Try your best to clear the clutter in the room as well. Make a personal Pilates space that feels comfortable. It can often be impossible to clear your mind if the room you are in is cluttered, stuffy or cramped.

All in all Pilates can be a very powerful and life changing form of exercise. However it is best to keep in mind that it works differently for every one. Try to tailor a specific program for your needs and set realistic weight loss goals. Be patient, clear your mind and allow your Pilates time to be all about you. Ease into Pilates and reward yourself when you are capable of performing more difficult exercises or able to work out for longer periods of time. As long as you enter the world of Pilates with the right mindset, you are well on your way to feeling healthier and looking better, body, mind and spirit.

Relaxation Techniques; How to Be Healthier, Get Rid of Stress, Feel Happier and Love Life

Feel Happier and Get Rid of Stress

Feel Happier and Get Rid of Stress

Life is full of stress and far too much hustle and bustle. All the running around, physically and mentally, can be exhausting. Not enough people simply take the time needed to calm their nerves, clear their mind and relax. It is absolutely mesmerizing how much healthier and better you can feel if you just incorporate a few relaxation techniques into your daily life. If you find yourself suffering from mood swings or uncontrollable impatience then you should consider the benefits of relaxation techniques. This is not to say that relaxation techniques can only help people who feel stressed however. Even if you are calm and feel healthy, these methods can improve your quality of life.

Effective relaxation techniques have an uncanny ability to improve your overall health and well- being. Just a few of the benefits incorporated with the practice of daily relaxation include;

-Lowering of your blood pressure

-Increase of blood flow and more oxygen into the body

-Reduction of muscle tension

-Fewer symptoms or ailments such as headaches

-Increased Energy

-More will power and better reaction to problems

-Less mood swings, anger and frustration

-More daily efficiency overall

The best part of it all is that you do not necessarily have to put in a lot of time or effort to adopt relaxation techniques into your daily routine. Most simply involve refocusing your attention and taking a little time for yourself each day. Some popular and powerful techniques include;

PROGRESSIVE RELAXATION OF MUSCLES

With this method all you do is find a quiet space and slowly tense and relax each one of your individual muscle groups. Your body will almost instantly begin to understand the difference between relaxation and tension. The best way to go about it is to start at your toes and work all the way up to your forehead, tensing and relaxing the muscles slowly. Tense each muscle to the count of five and then relax for at least 30 seconds.

AUTOGENIC RELAXATION

In simple terms this is a relaxation technique that comes from within you. The trick is to use positive images within your mind to display a sense of relaxation to your body. By repeating words or conjuring repetitive, pleasant images your mind and body will feel more at peace. Picture yourself in a place that makes you feel happy and concentrate your body on certain areas that are causing you pain or where you feel stress building up. Slow your heart rate, relax each part of your body one at a time and let your body find the source of your stress.

VISUALIZATION

This relaxation technique works much in the same way that Autogenic relaxation does. Visualize a place that you feel comfortable and would love to be. Whether it be on a beach in the Caribbean, cuddled by a warm fire or at the top of a majestic mountain. Find a quiet place, put on some comfortable clothes and breathe deeply. Allow your mind to be tricked into the idea that you are really there. Incorporating this technique once a day for just a few minutes can pay major dividends towards your overall outlook on life.
Of course these are just a few examples of some relaxation techniques. Once you feel comfortable with these then you can move into more intense and time consuming methods. However if you are just looking to take small, baby steps towards meditation and relaxation, these provide a great starting point. Try them out, for just a few minutes a day and get ready to not only notice a positive change yourself, but for others to see you in a new, more calming light as well.
