Free your Mind and Tone your Body

Free your Mind and Tone your Body

Pilates has become an extremely popular form of exercise and really offers an excellent way to get in shape. It is not only good for your body but can also relax the mind and make you feel calmer and more at ease. The hardest part about Pilates is getting started, as you may feel lost or not really know how to go about doing things appropriately. Here to help you out are some Pilates tips and ideas to help you implement fitness into your life.

Use a Pilates teacher to learn the basics
Possibly the best way to learn Pilates is to sign up for a beginner’s class in your local area. Working with an experienced Pilates instructor will ensure that you get started the right way and get a proper introduction to this unique form of exercise. They can also tailor a program to your individual needs and show you what changes you can incorporate to maximize your Pilates experience.

Set Realistic Goals and Be Positive

Of course your initial goal is to tone your body so that it looks like Jessica Alba, but it is best to start slow. Be honest with yourself about which weight loss and toning goals you can achieve, and the strengths and weaknesses of your body. You will have a lot more success with Pilates if you set attainable goals and remain positive even if the changes come about slowly.

Be Patient

The reason that Pilates is so popular is due to the positive and consistent change it brings about. This consistent weight loss and toning means you will be able to meet your long term goals, but must be patient. You are not going to get the body you want overnight and you need to be willing to practice Pilates’ exercises regularly.

Don’t Overwork Yourself

So many popular fitness programs and work out tapes push the old adage, “No Pain, No Gain.” This is not the philosophy inherent within Pilates. If something hurts or you are exhausted then you need to take a break. Relax and be sure to listen to what your body is telling you. Obviously some discomfort may mean that your body is going through positive changes, but if a certain position hurts, let up and take a breather. Your body knows what it is talking about.

Make it Personal

Pilates is an excellent form of exercise because it can be adapted to so many lifestyles and used to meet so many of your needs. Look for certain programs and exercises that are geared to your everyday life and certain ailments you are suffering from. For example, if you suffer from back pain then find the exercises geared towards improving the strength of your back.

Set Aside the Time

Make your Pilates time all about you. Set a schedule and practice Pilates on a regular basis. Clear your mind and only focus on yourself while doing it. If you are at home then turn off your cell phone and unplug your land line. Make the time truly quiet and peaceful, and your body and mind will feel more at ease for the rest of the day. Try your best to clear the clutter in the room as well. Make a personal Pilates space that feels comfortable. It can often be impossible to clear your mind if the room you are in is cluttered, stuffy or cramped.

All in all Pilates can be a very powerful and life changing form of exercise. However it is best to keep in mind that it works differently for every one. Try to tailor a specific program for your needs and set realistic weight loss goals. Be patient, clear your mind and allow your Pilates time to be all about you. Ease into Pilates and reward yourself when you are capable of performing more difficult exercises or able to work out for longer periods of time. As long as you enter the world of Pilates with the right mindset, you are well on your way to feeling healthier and looking better, body, mind and spirit.
